Why Bike Transport Needs Specialists (Not Generic Packers)
Moving a car in a regular truck works okay. Moving a bike in the same way is a disaster waiting to happen. Bikes have exposed components (handlebars, mirrors, pedals, tank, seat) that scratch instantly. Standard trucks have no securing points. Bikes slide. They fall. Scratches happen.
Specialized bike transport uses:
- Dedicated two-wheeler carriers (not mixed with household goods)
- Bike-specific securing — frame straps at multiple points
- 4-layer wrapping (plastic → foam → bubble wrap → tarpaulin)
- Photographic evidence at loading and unloading
- Specialist drivers trained for bike transport

Timeline — How Long Does It Take?
Bike transport transit times are generally similar to household transit, but can be slightly faster because bike carriers don't need as many rest stops.
- Patna/Ranchi/Bhubaneswar: 2-3 days
- Delhi/Bangalore/Chennai: 4-6 days
- Mumbai/Pune: 5-7 days
- Kochi/North-East: 6-8 days
Add 1-2 days for door-to-door total (pickup from your Kolkata area, delivery to destination address).
Required Documentation
You'll need:
- Original Registration Certificate (RC book or smart card)
- Valid insurance certificate
- Valid PUC (Pollution Under Control) certificate
- ID proof (Aadhaar, driving license, passport)
- Declared destination address
- Bike key (we return at delivery)
We handle all transit permits, state-entry documentation, and commercial vehicle requirements. You don't need to arrange any transport paperwork beyond the above.
Pre-Transport Bike Prep (What You Do)
To make transport smoother:
- Fuel tank: Reduce to near-empty (below ¼). Transport regulations require low-fuel state for safety. If tank is full, we'll ask you to use/drain.
- Remove accessories: Saddle bags, tank bags, add-on mirrors, aftermarket accessories — remove and carry separately or include in household shipment.
- Disconnect battery: We'll do this at loading if you haven't.
- Remove valuables: Helmets, gloves, cleaning kits, spare keys — don't leave on bike.
- Clean the bike: Clean bike helps photographic inspection identify existing marks vs transit damage.
- Photograph existing dents/scratches: For your own records. We also photograph at loading.
- Keep documents ready: Easy access at pickup time.
How DSR Handles Your Bike
Step 1: Pre-transport Documentation (at your address)
Our crew arrives with a detailed checklist. Records existing marks, dents, scratches. Photographs every angle of your bike. You sign off on the pre-transport condition report.
Step 2: Multi-layer Wrapping
Layer 1: Plastic film directly on bike (protects against dust, moisture).
Layer 2: Foam padding on sensitive areas (tank, mirrors, seat).
Layer 3: Bubble wrap full-coverage (3 layers).
Layer 4: Tarpaulin outer wrap (weather-sealed).
Step 3: Secured Loading into Carrier
Bike goes into dedicated two-wheeler carrier (never mixed with household cargo). Frame strap immobilization at 4-6 points. Anti-slide grips at wheels. Tamper-proof seal applied.
Step 4: GPS Tracking During Transit
You receive live GPS link via WhatsApp. Automatic checkpoint updates as carrier crosses major highway points. Estimated delivery window sent 24 hours before arrival.
Step 5: Delivery and Final Inspection
At destination, we unwrap, inspect, and compare with pre-transport photos. You sign off after verifying no new damage. Any discrepancy triggers claims process within 7 business days.
When Is Insurance Worth It?
For standard bikes (below ₹2 lakh value), insurance may be optional for short routes (under 1,000 km). For premium bikes (Harley, Ducati, Royal Enfield 650+) or longer routes (Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore), insurance is strongly recommended.
Insurance premium is typically 3-5% of declared value:
- ₹1 lakh bike: ₹3,000-5,000 premium
- ₹3 lakh bike: ₹9,000-15,000 premium
- ₹5 lakh bike (Harley): ₹15,000-25,000 premium
- ₹10 lakh+ bike (superbike): ₹30,000-50,000 premium
Covers transit damage, accidental loss, weather incidents, handling damage. Claims processed within 7 business days.
Premium Bike Special Handling
For bikes worth ₹3 lakh+, DSR recommends wooden crating:
- Custom-sized wooden crate built around the bike
- Foam padding filler at all contact points
- Additional screw-down securing to truck floor
- Waterproof seal on crate
- Additional cost ₹2,000-4,500
This is standard for Harleys, Ducatis, Triumph, BMW motorcycles, and anything you'd be heartbroken to see scratched.
