How to Choose the Right Packers and Movers in Kolkata

3. Asks for 50%+ advance payment: Industry standard is 25-35% advance, balance on delivery. Higher advance demands are a scam warning.
4. No GST invoice offered: Legitimate business issues GST. "Cash only" or "kachcha bill" = red flag.
5. No physical survey offered: Serious quotes require either in-person or video survey. Phone-only quotes are guesstimates.
6. Vague written quote: Proper quote has itemized packing material, labor, transport, insurance, GST separately. Lump-sum vague quote = trouble later.
7. No insurance option mentioned: Serious movers always offer insurance. Absence suggests they don't take liability seriously.
8. Reviews only on their own website: Only independent reviews count (Google, JustDial, FB). Only-own-site-testimonials are suspect.
9. Pushy pressure to book immediately: "Book today only — rates go up tomorrow." Legitimate movers give you time to decide.
10. No staff uniform or ID: Professional crews have uniform + ID. Random labor shows up for pickup = unprofessional.
11. Unwilling to share existing customer references: Established movers will connect you with recent customers on request.
12. No written contract offered: Verbal arrangement for 5+ lakh worth of goods? Walk away.

8 Must-Ask Questions Before Booking

Before signing any contract, get clear written answers to these:

1. "What is your full company name and GSTIN?"
2. "Will you send a physical (or video) surveyor before finalizing the quote?"
3. "Is insurance available? What does it cover, and at what cost?"
4. "What is the payment schedule? What's advance vs on-delivery?"
5. "Will the crew on moving day be your employees or contract labor? Will they be in uniform?"
6. "Do you have transit tracking (GPS)? Can I get live location?"
7. "What is your damage claim process if anything is broken?"
8. "Can you connect me with 2 recent customers as references?"

• ☐ Google their exact business name + "complaints" — read what comes up
• ☐ Check Google Maps reviews (actual reviews, not just star rating)
• ☐ Verify office address exists (Google Maps, or drive by if local)
• ☐ Ask for 2 recent customer references and actually call them
• ☐ Get everything in writing before payment
• ☐ Payment via cheque/UPI to business account (not personal account, not cash for large amounts)
